Where Jesus is transforming lives

our History

Restored Holiness Church of God (RHCOG) is a church founded upon prayer and praise.  In May of 1995, Rev. Dr. Jacqueline Waite along with four members gathered for prayer to seek the face of God for divine direction for the ministry. Suddenly, the manifested presence of the Lord filled the room. Since that time forward, the once small prayer meeting had rapidly grown into a mighty movement of the Holy Spirit and the Lord has been adding to his church such as to be saved.

As God began to do a new thing among us, we saw a gradual increase in membership.  With the expansion of ministry, it was time to relocate from our Stuyvesant Ave. location to Main St. in East Orange, NJ; where we rented a classroom on the 2nd floor of a larger assembly. It became our home for several years under the leadership of Dr. Waite. As time progressed, many more lives were transformed by the power of God through the preaching of the gospel. Within that same year, the church was incorporated in Trenton, New Jersey for the sole purpose of preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Sanballat and Tobiah attempted to hinder the building of the walls, so the Adversary made many attempts to hinder the move of God within the ministry. While spreading the message of Jesus Christ, Restored encountered many challenges and obstacles along the way. Restrictions were placed on the time the services were held, due to the fact we were renting for our weekly services. Unfortunately, we did not have a key to the building. Often we would gather for important events and have to end the service at a specific time, despite the move of the Holy Spirit.  During the heart of winter we would attend service and discovered that there was no heat in the small classroom. We were told, “No one was available to turn it on” therefore we left and conducted the service at a member’s home.

Thanks be to God for His divine intervention.  In 1998, the Lord saved Sis Gloria Haughton who offered her home to us for prayer and fasting. Until then, we would find a local park or use someone’s home to conduct these services.  However, at the home prayer meetings many lives were radically changed, some even received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We continued seeking the Lord’s divine direction by having frequent all night shut-ins, coupled with fasting, until the Lord led us to our current location, 40-44 Hobson Street in Newark, New Jersey. The building was dilapidated, the flooring was completely disintegrated, the entire property was surrounded with debris and the basement was filled with water. We used all that we had in the bank to purchase the property, while trusting the Lord to provide for the renovations. One Friday night during an all-night prayer meeting, the Lord confirmed a prophetic word that the money to restore the property was among us. An intense warfare was launched on us by the Adversary however, the prophecy was fulfilled. In 2003, we joyfully relocated to 40-44 Hobson Street and God gave our Pastor the scripture for the opening ceremony, Romans 8:37 “Nay in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.”

Although we have encountered warfare and have had much turbulence along this journey, God fought for us and has given us the victory. Restored Holiness Church of God is here serving the community and ministering to the needs of the people, we provide shuttle service for those who are in need of transportation to and from the church.  Our boys and girls mentorship programs encourages the youth to aspire to achieve their fullest potential. We take every opportunity to witness to others about the good news of Jesus Christ.

Our missionary department has been meeting the needs of those near and far through the generous contributions of our members, friends, and families. We provide food to the homeless on a weekly basis. In August during our Annual Community Outreach Day, we ministered to the spiritual and physical needs of the community, by providing a day filled with fun, food, and back to school supplies for the neighborhood children.  Annually, we host a Pre-Thanksgiving dinner where we feed our neighbors and over one hundred people in the local shelters.  Internationally, we ship barrels to Haiti, Jamaica, and Ghana filled with clothes, food, and daily household products. We crave your prayers as we continue to seek other opportunities to minister to the needs of the community. Praise the Lord and to God be the glory!
